Why this matters
What changed on 13 December 2024
The EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR, 2023/988) now applies. If you sell to buyers in the EU from outside the EU, your product needs a responsible person established in the EU.

A responsible person in the EU
Its name, postal address and email must be shown on the product, its packaging or an accompanying document, and in the online listing.

Marketplaces check the details
Etsy, Amazon and eBay ask sellers to add the manufacturer and the EU responsible person. Listings without them may be hidden from EU buyers or taken down.

Documents must be ready
When a market surveillance authority asks, you have to show the technical documentation of the product: a description, a risk assessment, instructions and warnings.

What is GPSR and does it apply to me?
GPSR is the EU General Product Safety Regulation 2023/988. It covers consumer products sold to buyers in the EU, including sales through Etsy and other marketplaces. If you ship orders to EU countries, it applies to you too.
What is an EU representative (responsible person)?
It is a company in the EU that acts under your written mandate: it keeps the product documentation, answers requests from market surveillance authorities and is the contact point for product safety in the EU.
What exactly do I get after I join?
The representative's name, address and email for your listings and packaging, the signed mandate as a PDF, a certificate with a verification link and an account for your products and documents.
How long does it take to join?
Signing up, filling in the form and signing the mandate usually takes about 20 minutes. The details for marketplaces appear in your account after the first payment.
Which documents do I need for a product?
Every product needs a risk assessment. Some categories also need instructions, warnings, a photo of the label or a test report. Your account shows what is missing.
How do I make a risk assessment?
In your account there is a wizard: a few questions about the product, its materials and who it is for. From your answers we prepare the risk assessment PDF and the recommended warnings for the listing and the label. You can also upload your own document. [LAWYER TEXT]
Can you prepare the risk assessment for me?
Yes, as a one-off service per product: you describe the product and upload what you have, we fill in the assessment and upload the PDF to the product. The price is on the pricing page. Such a product is always reviewed by a person. [LAWYER TEXT]
What do I print on the product or the packaging?
The representative's name, address and email, the product and its identifier. The account prepares a label with these details and a QR code that leads to the certificate verification page, as a single label or an A4 sheet. [LAWYER TEXT]
What happens when an authority asks about my product?
A market surveillance authority writes to us as your representative. We pass the request to your account with a deadline, you reply with text and files, and we answer the authority. If a buyer reports a safety problem through the certificate page, you see it in your account too, without the buyer's personal details.
Can I use the details right after I pay?
Yes, you can add the representative's details to your shop right after the first payment. Each product becomes active in our system once you upload its documents and we check them.
Which products do you not accept?
The list is on the product categories page. If your category is marked there as not accepted, the sign-up stops with an explanation before you pay anything.
What happens if I cancel or stop paying?
The mandate ends, the certificate is shown as not valid on the verification page, and you have to remove the representative's details from your listings. Your documents are kept until the end of the retention period. [LAWYER TEXT]
Do you promise that my shop will not be blocked?
No. We help you meet the GPSR requirements: we act as your representative in the EU and keep your documents in order. Decisions about listings are made by the marketplace, and the manufacturer remains responsible for product safety.
How can I pay from Ukraine?
By Visa or Mastercard through Stripe. The payment is in euros; your bank converts it at its own rate.
I run an agency and manage several sellers. Can I use one account?
Yes, with the Agency plan. You add your sellers to one account and manage their shops, products and documents; the product limit is shared by all sellers and the agency pays one subscription. Each seller signs their own mandate under their own login: an agency cannot sign it for them. We set the agency account up ourselves, so write to us first.
An agency manages my shop. What if it stops paying?
We email you on the first day a payment of the agency is missed. You can leave the agency in your account at any time and pay for your own subscription: your mandate, products and documents stay, and the setup fee is not charged again.
